Paula Foley Tillen

Paula Foley Tillen has worked as a professional musician in the Milwaukee area for the past 31 years. She has worked as a private piano instructor since 1974, has provided musical direction for many area theatre companies, and is in much demand as a pianist, vocal coach, and accompanist. For eleven years she served as musical director for ComedySportz of Milwaukee. Paula is an adjunct faculty member at Pius XI High School, serving as director of the women’s chamber choir, staff accompanist, and piano instructor, serves as director of choirs at Mount Zion Lutheran Church in Wauwatosa, Wisconsin, and maintains a private piano studio of about 25 students. In October of 2006 she did a recital tour of Norway and Denmark with mezzo soprano Jillian Hansen Bruss which featured the world premiere of her song cycle, “When Thou Commandest Me to Sing”, based on the poetry of Rabindranath Tagore.

Paula is a founding member and composer-in-residence of the only professional women’s choral ensemble in the Midwest, the Milwaukee Choral Artists. She has co-written and composed for two original theatre pieces which have been produced by Milwaukee’s Windfall Theatre. Her compositions and arrangements have also been performed by the UWM Chorale, the UWM Women’s Chorus, the choir of the Cathedral of St John the Evangelist, Mastersingers of Milwaukee, Milwaukee Choral Artists, Vox Caelestis, the 2007 Michigan All-State Treble Choir, and others, and were featured at the reading sessions of 2005's ACDA National Convention. They are found in the catalogues of Moon of Hope Publishing, Hal Leonard Publishing, Treble Clef Music Press, and, in early 2007, Santa Barbara Music Press.

When not singing, playing, conducting, writing, or otherwise doing music, Paula enjoys working in her garden, eating delicious meals prepared by her husband, “Chef Bob”, and being the proud mother of five beautiful cats.

Christ the Lord Is Risen Today
music by Paula Foley Tillen

This is a fresh new approach to the familiar text by Charles Wesley. Using 6/8 time and ending each verse with a fanfare-like Alleluia!, Paula has created the perfect way to begin a service of Resurrection.

Take My Life and Let It Be
music by Paula Foley Tillen

A fresh and interesting treatment of the 19th century hymn text by Frances Ridley Havergal. It has a gentle, folk-like melody for the choir with a supportive accompaniment of piano and flute. This anthem would greatly enhance any service of dedication or ordination.
