Civil War Trilogy
music by Bradley A. Bombardier

Using haunting melodies with breath-taking harmonies, Bradley has created an awe-inspiring setting for these beloved Herman Melville poems. The first piece, The Portent (1859), is a short commentary on the origins of the Civil War. Malvern Hill (July, 1862) is a bright marching song in 4/4 time. The primary three verses begin in major keys but each ends minor. After a pause, the final reflective verse begins slowly and cadences on a beautifully scored major chord. The final movement, Shiloh - A Requiem (April, 1862), is a rhapsodic reflection of the battlefield at Shiloh after the bloody proceedings are finished. The gentle rocking motion of the text gives a peaceful and melancholy air to the music. The trilogy ends on a half cadence--leaving the listener with a breathless, uneasy feeling, and provides no real closure. The commentary on war by the poet is unmistakable.

A Shakespeare Verse
music by Bradley A. Bombardier

Taking its text from Act 5 of Shakespeare’s Merchant of Venice, Bradley has created a quietly moving new work. The central section is performed sotto voce, with no vibrato or expression. A winding, descending melismatic cadence brings the piece from minor to major.

Three Shakespearean Songs
music by Jan Bach

Three wonderful a cappella pieces that are available individually or as a set! The first setting, a lively Spring, uses the song sung by Moth in Act V, Scene 2 of Love’s Labour’s Lost and is written for SATB voices. Blow, Blow, the second piece, is written for SSAATTBB voices with an SATB quartet. This text comes form the song sung by Amiens in Act II, Scene 7 of As You Like It. The Clown’s song in Act V, Scene 1 of Twelfth Night is the text source for The Wind and the Rain--the energetic third piece of this work written for SSAATTBB voices with a tenor solo. Jan Bach’s composing genius, extensive knowledge of the choral medium, and engaging sense of humor all go into making these masterpieces!

Un Canadien Errant

The Water is Wide
music by Bradley A. Bombardier

This setting of a traditional and often-set text contains many unorthodox yet subtle harmonic features that paint a mood of the text. Many chords containing fourths, ninths and unresolved harmonies keep the feeling of this gentle work from getting too complacent.
